every design i have built other than the one i sell has overheated in a matter of minutes. to me over 120 degrees is overheating. have any of you had an experience with a configuration that seemed to overheat and run up to like 130-140 and then level off and never rise above that point? i usually cut them off at 120 130 or so but it occurred to me tonight that its possible that sometime it might would level off. i can easily run mine up to 170 safely without any damage so i may just let one runaway tmrw and see if it really is running away

My truck usually tops out at about 140°F, but I am using a gallon of water. I have another post that explains how the cell is designed. It is under this thread. http://www.hhoforums.com/showthread.php?t=40

so yours actually increases in temp all the way up to 140 and then levels out. hmm intersting i may have to run some plate test again tmrw and let them run up to 140 and see if they stop

You probably need to stay hooked up to see where the temp maxes out. Also, keep notes on Liters per amp/minute, or better still, liters per watt/minute. Watts equal volts times amps. There are ways to shed heat From the cell. You really need to know how much energy you are consuming, so that you can adjust your design, your electrolyte, and your cooling.

How about putting multiple cell in series; please check this document; read from page 4 onwards.
