i was running a buddies graphite cell the otherday and the cell turned my water completly black and i decided to put my ss cell in the water and i was pulling 30amps using tapwater and gaphite mix vs. about 7 with just plain tap water. there is patricles in the bottom but alot of the graphite is mixed in with the water and has not seperated after about 24 hours now.

It is the graphite flaking apart. I saw a gen. that was using graphite rods and after about an hour the rods had grooves cut in them. The water turned black.

it was graphite. but it is working great as an electrolyte and i have found none in my bubbler water. i think i will only just have to keep adding water. he was using edm 100 graphite but he thinks he got ripped off. it might be worth getting that graphite powder and trying that.

I'm not a chemist, but wouldn't that produce CO2?

I am not sure what baking soda will do to graphite but KOH will make it erode. The black water (with graphite in it) is very conductive.
