I discoverd my `99 f150 has a cht sensor. Will this prevent my engine from melt down if I lean it too much by MAF or EFIE controler?

I have a 98 Explorer that I am using an EFIE controller on and have tried to find the threshold of the mixture and what I have found is that you will most likely trip the check engine light before anything else, or your truck will stall out before you can do any damage. I know your a truck and im and SUV but similar year

The Cyl. Head Temp. sensor provides a more accurate indicator of combustion temp than a regular coolant temp sensor, but it still won't respond fast enough to provide protection to the valves/seats from being burned due to a lean mixture on things like throttle transients.
