We are starting to see lots of spam on the site. So I did a little digging and discovered that there is a newer (and not beta) version of vBulletin. Looks like lots of bug fixes in v3.8.1 over 3.8.0(beta).

It may be time to update the software on this forum.

All the spam now is coming from actual people, not robots, from what I can tell.

There's nothing we can really do to stop them, except delete it accordingly.

Luckily we have it down to a semi-dull roar.

I'm going to ban some more IP ranges and hopefully that will help as well.

I'm wondering if there is an addon module out there that will allow posts to be blocked based upon keywords in, say, the users first 10 posts. This would be extremely useful as they all seem to be 'pills', 'viagra', 'tickets' etc.

I use phpBB on one of my web sites and they have to register to post on it. You can have it disallow language and you can suspend a user and they have to get a new email to be able to register again. I have never had any spam posted. Maybe I'm just lucky but it has been up for 8 years.
