There has been alot of discussion about baking soda. There are a number of websites and individuals saying baking soda can be deadly. If we weren't using baking soda what would we use that is effective and safe?

Potassium Hydroxide (KOH) This is much better than baking soda, cleaner and produces more gas. Sodium Hydroxide is next best.

The following links are for a drain cleaner that is commonly available and in liquid form. It's 45% Potassium Hydroxide (KOH) and 55% Water.

I recommend being very careful handling it and adding small amounts until the current & temperature are right.

Potassium Hydroxide (KOH) is caustic! It is also one of the main ingredients in surfactants. Because of this, it will reduce the surface tension of the water and should reduce foaming and speed up initial gas production.
