I think we are gonna be screwed anyway in the long run and here is why...

Right now we are venturing ever closer to alternative energy in every form we need it to be in... Eventually there will be a way to collect, store, and then distribute energy which will make oil alternatives even more attractive.

The Brakken reserve, Anwar, and so many places in the Gulf of Mex. are all a total of about MAYBE 10% or LESS of the oil needs here in the USA so I highly doubt that if we tap it, the price of fuel/gas will get to much cheaper...(though it certainly will come down a bit) its not enough to simply piss folks off that much.....There is no real answer to the economy and our trillions of dollars in debt.

Only possible solution that we have once we break the oil addiction, is to market our new tech to the globe, and considering how quickly tech is typically assimilated and then reproduced, I still believe that we are gonna suffer in the long run anyway...

    T. Boone Pickens has a few really great ideas for energy supply...If we are the first to come up with energy storage and release-then we MAY POSSIBLY be able to come away from the camel and start being energy and financially responsible, independant, and also abundant...

    Just a thought...

I think the government in this case is the problem.

In the past ten years China's oil demands have went up 50% (expect to go up by 80% over the next 10 years). We invaded the second biggest oil producing country in the world. No real problem here. This ups oil demand. Then our president starts calling world leaders names like "evil" and "terrorist". These same world leaders are in charge of the oil. Before this name calling started we where getting friend prices on oil. You don't slap at the hand that feeds you and expect good results. This is just pure political ignorance.

I can not imagine that either of the two current canidates for the president would be nearly as ignorant as Bush was in his approach to......well, whatever it is he was trying to do. Piss people off I guess.

That being said I hope for the sake of all our futures if gas does go down for whatever reason that people do not lose sight of alternative engery sources. These are less volitale, sustainable markets for the future. I have yet to experience a day where the sun did not come up or the wind did not blow.

I do appologize if I have offened any body. I generally do not share any political views I have.
