    Disconnecting O2 sensor leads

While communicating with a commercial seller of HHO units, I was told you could simply disconnect the wire connectors to the O2 sensor(s) to prevent the ECU from going into "closed loop" (while supplementing w/HHO) Besides activating the "Check Engine" light and sending a fault code into the computer, does anybody know if this actually works?
    Thanks
