    Resago's Setup

    I bought an 11 plate dry cell off ebay for ~$160 -NNNN+NNNN- 250sq inch exposed to solution.
    30amp breaker $4
    40amp relay $4
    50 AMP Meter. ebay $12
    Vacuum Switch ebay $26 (look for VOES)
    (the gen only runs when my vacuum pump is making vacuum.)
    res. from autozone $10
    bubbler from ebay $15 (yeah I know)
    12' of braided PVC hose from lowes $24
    2lbs KOH from AAAchemicals $20
    and finally some distilled water.

    so far, pulling about 12amps. need to add more KOH

    What is the hose that is between the ammeter and radiator cap? Looks like it has a brass fitting on it but not hooked to anything. Do you have any idea what the gas output is yet?

    the blocked off hose used to be going to the cell, but I had the dreaded back-pressure gremlin, so I added a barb to my res and ran a new line and blocked off the old line. No idea of output yet. I want to get amps to around 30 and then measure.

    added more KOH. now amps at 25.

    it took 45sec to fill a 945ml bottle. 1.26L/Min I think. 5.05mmw
    I think my red cap was leaking during the test as well.

    I'll do another test later, I now have the Lowes rubber stopper snugly on it.

    edit: my 40amp relay is getting HOT!!!!

    I cant tell for sure butit looks like your dry cell is even or higher than your reservior. Might have to lower the cell some so it can stay full .

    yeah, Its "mostly" flooded, it probably is dry around the level of the exit hole, but that shouldn't hurt too much.
    also, I can bend the bracket the res it attached to and raise it.

    I had the same issue with my 40 amp relay until I upped the wire gauge to the side going to the battery. When I switched to 4 gauge wiring (maybe overkill), the heat generated by that relay greatly decreased and the wires barely got hot. Since there was no way to get the wiring to actually crimp and plug on those terminals, I just slipped the wire over it with the copper on the inside touching the terminal, and put a hose clamp over it to make sure it stayed on. Worked well and didn't cause overheating or amp spikes.

    relay is holding up.
    ran my battery down last night with lights and gen on, guess my Alt is not up for the task.
    Daytime driving seems fine.

    Keep a voltmeter attached across your battery terminals and note the volts without your generator on. When the volts start to drop you have found your alternators struggling point. Back off about 5% from there.

    I am thinking of getting a solar battery charger to put across my back deck in my car to keep the battery topped off.
