There is a really cool Pulse Width Modulator on ebay right now that also functions as a power control unit by turning the cell on and off based on the current sensing. If the engine is running the car's voltage is 14 volts. If the car is not running the voltage drops to 12-13V so it turns off the unit.
This will also protect your alternator if you are drawing too much current by safely shutting down your cell to avoid damaging the alternator.
