87 carb'd wrangler w/ a MAP sensor?

Hello, I have a 87 wrangler with a weber carb and a 7 cup cell producing about 1lpm. I have bee reading up on my jeep while attempting to restore it and have noticed that even though it is carb'ed it has a MAP sensor.. This was shocking to me. Would a MAP sensor enhancer help with the mpg increase?? I have not re-jetted the carb or adjusted the carb since installing the cell about 3 months ago. I have very minimal mpg gains but better horse power and lower emissions. Any ideas on this one? A MAP sensor on a carb engine is baffling to me but I dont know much about cars so...

If I'm correct your Jeep also has an o2 sensor. I think this is the wiring diagram for your Jeep.

So do you think that the MAP sensor enhancer would do the trick or the carb adjustment or re-jet?

BTW, It does have an o2 sensor

The next thing you'll need to find out is does all your electronics work. When we were rebuilding those carbs we would disable the controls because they worked so unefficient.

I have along history with jeep products--up to about '95 i was a "specialist" in jepp 4x4-----
87 was the "change over " year from amc to chrylsler corp-- you need to get a factory shop service manual for the jeep== see the computer inputs and determine which way the electronics handle emissions-- i think most of the electronics in that year were related to ignition timing-- but i do not remeber the oem carbs tht well -- see the wiring to the computer for more help

I talked with some mechanics on this one and what they assume it is, if it is the same as Chevy's with this system is the MAP sensor and O2 sensors where not really used for controlling the fuel:air ratio but instead to ensure the system was running at the correct fuel:air ratio and to throw the check engine light, and or kill the engine.

what i would do is disconnect the wiring harness for the map sensor and see what happens...if it starts altering the RPM and sputtering than it is infact regulating your fuel:air if it throws the check engine light it is just a precaution. if it stalls it could be either a precaution or a controlling sensor and more research will need to be done.
