    HHO + Performance enhancer Chip is a "MUST" for EFI engines ?

    Hi all,

    Can anybody explain me the why most of the people are saying that performance enhancer chip is a "must" with the HHO setup for EFI engines rather than the CARB engines ? can't we run the DRY cell just without the performance chip connected to engine sensors in EFI engine to get higher MPG ?

    An EFIE is necessary when running HHO in later model cars simply because the O2 sensors will read the additional oxygen as a lean condition, thus causing the ECU to send a signal to the injectors to stay open longer. This, in turn, will use more gasoline. With a carbureted engine, all that is necessary is to retard the static timing & possibly re-jet the carb..

    What will happen when the O2 sensor removed and inject HHO ?

    When the computer stops getting a signal from the O2 sensor, or if that signal is too far out of its normal range, the computer thinks it is broken so it goes into ultra rich mode to protect the engine
    1991 Plymouth Acclaim 3L V6.
    1 dry cells with nineteen 6"x8" 316L ss plates, driven by constant current PWM set at 35 amps (13.3V at PWM). 28% KOH electrolyte. Total measured output 2.5 lpm. Mileage went from 18 to 26 mpg, all city driving (44% increase). EFIE set at .370 and I still need to play with ignition timing.

    Excellent post, Steve.
    Anytime any sensors are disconnected, not only will the CEL come on, but the computer will run the engine in 'open loop' mode.
    If things like O2 sensors are merely altered cheaply, such as with extenders or covering them with foil, etc., the ECU will see that this doesn't match what other sensors are seeing, and revert to open loop.
    Anytime something doesn't add up, the engine will revert to the stock 14.7/1 AFR settings. When this happens, you could actually lose any gains you were expecting due to the increased flame-front speed.
