Inner tube as gasket?

Do you think using a bicycle inner-tube could work as a gasket material?

I use shower pan gasket from Home Depot in my cell. It works great and is cheep . it comes 5' x # about $5.28 a foot. I also had my local shop make a guide for me. then i'm able to cut 8 gaskets at a time.

I tried using car and tractor inner tubes and it didn't work for me because the tube is not the same thickness across the sufrace and my cell leaked a lot..
I found a tractor parts shop where they sell rubber in meters (tractor owners use it for who knows what, maybe gaskets), I just say what thickness I want..
