    Stupid Question on Plate Arrangement

Please don't flame me for this ignorant question...

When I was experimenting with wet cells back in 2008, I noticed that the closer I placed the "-" and "+" bolts and washers in the water, the better the HHO production and of course amperage and heat.

If I was to use a plate configuration of say, -N+N- wouldn't that create faster HHO if it was controlled with a PWM? Or how about +N-N+N- ?

Thanks for not ripping into me. I'm still new to all of this...
