How long does it take it to see gas production on the first run?

I just ran my first dry cell for the first time. It's been about five minutes and I've only seen a few small bubbles. It's a single stack, +NNNNNN- configuration, running on a 12V power supply. How long does it take to really start seeing gas production on the first run?

It should be immediate. What is your electrolyte concentration? If it's low, you won't get squat. Additionally, a 12v power supply is inadequate. With 6 bipolar plates, it's only 1.71 volts per cell. Try running it with jumper cables hooked up to a running vehicle. That will bring the cell voltage up to 1.97.

I have a 24% concentration. I think I'm going to just drain the electrolyte and remove one of the plates.
