    10 Gauge Wire?

    I got a pwm from hydrogen fuel systems, and it said to use 10 gauge wire for up to 50 amps. I'll only be using about 12 amps.

    is 10 gauge wire really thick enough?

    Thanks

    I would think that 10 gauge would be OK for 12 amps, but not 50. Unless I bought bad wire. My 8 gauge wire got warm at 50 amps.

    really depends on how long the circuit run will be

    20 ft @ 15 amps i would run 10g
    10 ft @ 15 amps 12G will work
    may i suggest you wire your 30 amps? pwm with at least 10G =30amps
    or 2 lines of 12g = 20 x2 =40amps

    if you have ever raw melted a fuse closed and smoked a complete wiring harness you would never chance it again

    2 12g @ 15ft will deal with up to 40 amps

    8G = 40 amps
    6g = 50 amps

    31 plate dry cell set @ 2 Lpm
    KOH, 18 amps, 104 deg" bench"

    proper research saves time and money, the easy cheap way only cost more of both in the end

    Please understand that what the guys have listed here are pretty much minimums, as in "no less than".. Bear in mind that there is no rule saying that you can't go larger- just don't go smaller. One of the things we preach constantly is efficiency, and resistance robs efficiency. You say that you won't go over 12A- I promise you, you will.. (Unless you fill your reactor will nothing but distilled water- which is extremely inefficient). The reason I bring this up is because the difference between 10ga. & 8ga. per foot is pennies. The 8ga. has a full 1/3 less resistance than 10ga. with barely .03” increase in dia.- but it has over 34% increase in area. Never wire any of your HHO stuff to minimums- use the properly sized fuses in the appropriate locations and let those be the things that melt…

    My vote: 4G welding wire always always always when pulling amps go over kill.

    I recommend 6awg minimal for all my PWM's. 12awg is just too small. Spend the extra $10 and go big. Here is a hint... get 6awg battery cables from Walmart fairly cheap or get 4awg 20ft jumper cable from Sams Club for $18...
